Audience: Employees on all shifts at a sourdough bakery, Artisan Grain Solutions.
Problem: Currently, workers among all shifts are misjudging the fermentation state of the mixed sourdough, causing them to lose up to 500 loaves. The result is costing the company thousands in ingredients, labor, and missed delivery windows to grocery partners. Shift workers are also using a variety of different vocabulary words to describe the same term, which is leading to confusion amongst shift notes.
Solution: The goal for this training is to reduce product waste and rework by 15% by standardizing the vocabulary, sensory evaluation and fermentation timing across all production shifts.
Highlights:
Used adult learning theories- Gagne's Nine Events, Merrill's Principles of Instruction, and Mayer's Multimedia to engage the learner through:
Scenario-based training
Setting clear goals and objectives for the learner on how their behavior should change as a result of the training
Organize the learning logically through chunking and sequencing
Demonstration through visuals like videos and pictures
Incorporating practice and feedback
Providing job aids to enhance retention and on-the-job transfer of skills
Flip cards, accordion interaction, click-to-reveal interactions, slider interaction, custom drag-and-drop scenario interaction, marker interactions, tabbed interaction, buttons
Process: Before development, a deep-dive analysis would be conducted to ensure the training solution targeted the root cause of the business problem. A meeting with subject matter experts would occur to determine scope and sequence, define clear, measurable learning objectives, and create a blueprint through a design document. A storyboard was created to outline the interactive elements of learner engagement in the course. During the development phase, the storyboard is developed with all interactive elements implemented using Storyline. A SCORM compliant file is the deliverable to the client.
Evaluation: Kirkpatrick's Level 2 evaluation assesses the learner's knowledge retention through the use of knowledge checks that provide the learner opportunities to work through simulations they would encounter on the job. There is also a scenario-based final graded assessment that the learner must pass to complete the course. Kirkpatrick's Level 3 evaluation will be conducted by shift managers by keeping daily data sheets and conducting observations of employees for six months on all shifts. This data will be evaluated during team meetings monthly.
Additional Deliverables: Design Document | Storyboard | Job Aid | Voiceover Script

Audience: New Jiu Jitsu Practitioners in their first month of training.
Problem: New jiu jitsu practitioners have not learned gym safety and etiquette, which makes them more prone to injury. They feel overwhelmed by the lexicon and positions during rolls, and they also struggle to apply survival breathing and proper movement. For these reasons, 40% of new white belts quit jiu jitsu within the first month.
Solution: The goal for this training is to increase retention of new members in the first quarter by 20%. Success for this company looks like helping new jiu jitsu learners transition from “confused trial members” to “confident, long-term members.”

Process: Using the ADDIE Model, a needs analysis would be conducted with the business to determine what type of training would be appropriate to meet their business goal. In the design phase, a meeting with subject matter experts would determine the scope and sequence for the training and establish clear objectives through the use of a design document. In the development phase, the content was appropriately chunked and organized into heirarchical category based upon the most fundamental aspects of the content to the most complex. The deliverable is a comprehensive training created through Articulate Rise.
Evaluation: Kirkpatrick's Level 2 evaluation assessess the learner's retention through the use of knowledge checks, appropriately placed after a relative section of content. There is also a final assessment in which the questions are all scenario-based, forcing the learner to apply their new knowledge to situations they might encounter during practicing the sport of Jiu Jitsu. Kirkpatrick's Level 3 evaluation will occur monthly through staff meetings to review attendance reports. A survey will also be sent to learners who complete the course to assess how their behavior has changed during Jiu Jitsu training since completion of the course. The leadership team will review goals quarterly to determine next steps.
